A Therapist's Register -
What would be the Benefits?

Sound therapy has a long and established tradition in the healing arts but here in the UK we do not yet have a professional association based on a fee-paying membership.

By creating such an organization and opening a therapist's register, the public will benefit by gaining an accessible (web-based) source of information that will contain the names of all therapists who become members of the association, and signifying their voluntary agreement to adhere to a published code of ethics & standards of practice.

For professionals, a therapist's register enables you to gain the public's confidence and the possibility of client referrals and demonstrates your commitment to practising in a professional manner.

Many members of the public have little understanding of what sound therapy is or the benefits sound therapy can offer. We'd like to make one of the Association's aims & objectives raising public awareness about the potential benefits our therapy offers.

A membership association gives anyone who joins the opportunity to be actively involved in its future development.

The Sound Therapy Network is already engaged in a working party process to establish such an organization and would welcome the participation of both practitioners and members of the public who are interested in being involved in contributing.

Our aim is to create an inclusive membership, encompassing all levels of experience and qualifications. So if you use any form of sound or music within your therapeutic work; whether your work is group-based or one-to-one; whether you run experience-based workshops or training courses offering qualifications to others - we would like to hear from you.

We will use this website as an information resource for keeping all visitors informed of our progress and developments along the way. If you have any organizational skills, committee experience or simply time and enthusiasm and have a few hours a week you could devote to this project we would like to hear from you.

Such an Association could be a focus for educating the public about what sound therapy is; the benefits sound therapy can provide; maintaining & developing professional standards for therapists; and generally promoting sound therapy within the wider field of complementary therapies.
