Sound Therapy Network

Member Register - why do we need one?

A fundamental step in creating a representative body for sound therapy in the UK involves creating a Register of all practitioners & teachers (who may or may not be professionally qualified) who consider they use sound in some way as a therapeutic medium or tool. Currently, we have no way of knowing how many people work in our profession in the UK as no such Register exists.

We wish to hear from all of you. The aim is to create an inclusive listing, encompassing all levels of experience and qualifications. So if you use any form of sound or music within your therapeutic work; whether you present workshops of an experiential nature; whether you're a practitioner with no formal training; whether you run a training school offering courses and/or qualifications to others - we would like to hear from you.

Along with a Register, we wish to establish a membership-based Association which will function as a representative body for those who wish to join. Part of the Association's role will be to form a working party to propose professional guidelines for a code of ethics, standards of practice, standards for education & training & continuing professional development - areas of responsibility that members will have the opportunity to comment on, propose amendments to and ultimately vote on as a set of standards by which we agree to practice.

We intend to use this website as a forum for keeping everyone informed of any progress and developments along the way. If you have time and skills you would like to volunteer and can be actively involved in such a working party process we would like to hear from you.

Such an Association could be very helpful in educating the public about what sound therapy is and the benefits it can provide; maintaining & developing professional standards; administering a members' Register and generally promoting the value of sound therapy within the field of complementary therapy.

Without you an Association for Sound Therapy will not happen. Registering your interest is the first step.
