Soundscapes
Soundscapes was formed in 2001 by Lyz Cooper. Originally comprising of students and practitioners of The British Academy of Sound Therapy Soundscapes has now become a trio (with other performers being invited as guests on occasion). The trio includes Lyz Cooper, Lianne Fagon and Clifford Sax. Soundscapes' aim is to combine therapeutic sound and music to give therapeutic performances.
A typical performance features many instruments which ebb and flow around the audience, creating sonic pictures and hetrodynes (sound shapes). Sometimes a performance has a theme, such as 'The Tears of Anouk' which has a distinctive arctic flavour with reindeer drums, bells and Sami Joik chanting. Other performances are more abstract, allowing each audience member to have a unique sonic experience or journey. Some of the instruments featured in performances are drums, tuning forks, Himalayan (Tibetan) singing bowls, Crystal Bowls, voice in many forms such as chanting, mantra and overtoning, Fujara (a 6ft Slovakian shepherds flute), classical and ethnic flutes, cello, monochord, ravanatta (classical Indian string instrument), lyre, didgeridoo, tubular bells and so much more!
It is not uncommon for members of the audience to receive health benefits from attending a performance and over the years we have had reports from people who have had relief from a variety of imbalances from minor to long-term, chronic symptoms.
Soundscapes have performed in some wonderful places - the venue being extremely important as it shapes and changes the sound. Indoor as well as outdoor venues are chosen such as Stonehenge, the Chalice Well, churches and temples. For more information of our performances for this year click here. In March 06 Soundscapes launched their first CD - 'Emergence'. This is a piece of music which has sections of long, gentle sound that is intended to be a soundbath, or treatment for the listener. Emergence aims to help people to discover their true path. Recorded at the Spring Equinox, this piece intends to bring the listener from the darkness and stillness of the winter into the light and movement of Spring.
