Lyz Cooper

Lyz has been working in the complementary health arena since 1981. She has been teaching since 1992 within both mainstream and private adult education. In 2004 she graduated from University with a Certificate in Education (Cert.Ed) and is now taking a Masters Degree in Education researching the effectiveness of sound on learning ability, social skills and the immune system.

In 1995 she began researching sound therapy and developed an effective technique for improving health and well-being which focussed on diagnosing energy imbalances by scanning the system with sound and balancing the system using Himalayan bowls, voice (toning and overtoning) and crystal bowls. This method is known as the BAST Method and is taught at The British Academy of Sound Therapy which was founded by Lyz in 2000, becoming the first school in the UK to offer a professional qualification in sound therapy. The BAST method training course is a two year practitioner-level training with a high level of contact teaching hours and student support.

Lyz is passionate about working with sound and she has also worked with mantra, didgeridoo, drums, gong, tuning forks and many other instruments. In 2007 she launched a second professional training course which utilises other instruments such as gong, mantra, tuning forks and drum as well as a range of sound essences that Lyz has developed. This new qualification is a one year therapist-level training where the student chooses three out of five modules to tailor make the ideal training course for their needs. BAST is affiliated to the Institute for Complementary Medicine, The British Complementary Medicine Association and the Complementary Medical Association, giving anyone training with us the best possible foundation upon which to base a successful, thriving practice.

Lyz's work has produced excellent results and received positive support from the media with features in magazines, newspapers, radio and television in the UK and overseas. She is a consultant to the Institute for Complementary Medicine and a member of the British General Council of Complementary Practitioners, an organisation formed to represent the complex profession of complementary medicine through elected and appointed representatives.

Lyz gives performances and runs talks, workshops and presentations in the UK and overseas. Her workshops are highly experiential, offering the participant an individual journey and the chance to work with many ancient, modern and rare instruments. Choose from drum making, voice, women's empowerment shamanic retreats, Peruvian whistling vessel sittings and the popular 'Sonic Alignment' workshops which often include private sessions within sacred sites such as Stonehenge or the White Spring in Glastonbury.

Lyz has also composed two CD's - Chakra Balance and Crystal and Stone - and performs with her group, Soundscapes, in wonderful locations such as Stonehenge. In June 2006 Soundscapes released their first CD Emergence which has received excellent reviews.
