Lyz Cooper

Therapeutic sound is a wonderful modality for improving health and wellbeing, raising consciousness and having fun whilst improving your life for the better!

Lyz worked in a high pressured job in advertising for many years whilst trying to persue her love for holistic health and spiritual development as a hobby. In 1993 her body finally gave up and she found herself in bed with ME.

Lyz began using her voice to help her healing process and found that this was extremely effective. When she was fit enough she began to look around for somewhere to study sound therapy but there was no school in the UK offering a qualification at that time.

Lyz then began a journey of self-discovery and transformation, travelling to different countries and seeking out traditional instruments and how they could be used for improving health and wellbeing.

Lyz is passionate about fusing ancient techniques, traditions and teachings with modern science and enjoys researching and developing different techniques which produce the most positive effects.

She is currently studying for an MA in Education and is researching the effectiveness of sound and rhythm to develop social skills and communication.

In 1997 she formed Soundworks and gave workshops and presentations all over the UK and overseas. In 2000 The British Academy of Sound Therapy was formed. Since then Lyz has written many articles which have been published all over the world, and has recorded and performed with her group 'Soundscapes'. Lyz's book, Sounding the Mind of God was published in English in 2009 and German in 2010. It has been endorsed by Jonathan Goldman, Dr Fred Alan Wolf (from What the Bleep..), Dr Manjir Samanata Laughton, and James D'Angelo.

In 2010 The British Academy of Sound Therapy won 'Best Complementary Medicine Company' at the ICNM awards. This was for the 'oustanding contribution to sound therapy worldwide as well as for the high standards that BAST have shown'.
