Sounding Bowls developed out of my work as a sculptor working with bowl-forms.

I was searching for bowl-forms that could carry, just by the power of their shape, something special into the world. I had a feeling that maybe, in a very small way, a handmade object could carry with it, radiate quietly from itself, something that made life easier for the struggling human soul.

I nursed a hope that, somehow, forms made with love might, by their presence assist in whatever small way individual awakening to the beautiful, creative tensions between Wisdom and Love. To the true nature and role of the Human Being in the created world.

This search for subtle, intrinsic harmony of form led me to discover forms whose hidden resonances were as remarkable as their visual beauty.

I had no idea how those who bought my forms might be led to discover the richness of their hidden acoustic.

Then one night during my evening meditations the image of a bowl with, stretched across the inside, a tensed musical string appeared to me as though objectivey in front of me, as powerfully as though present in the corner of the room.

From this image I have developed a whole range of musical sculptures based on circular resonators. Yes, Sounding Bowls. Not wishing to obfuscate I chose a name that did no more than describe them.

Having sold some 20 variations through art galleries, to collectors, etc I began to hear people say "this could be used in therapy" Soon therapists began to buy them, the first one, working at an NHS hospice in Oxford was so astonished at the results he got using it that he immediately commissioned a larger one and organized a gathering to tell other music therapists about his experiences.

Since then amazing results have become a fairly consistent aspect of Sounding Bowls. They are still made with love. Each one is still a work of art as well as a musical instrument, I continue to hope that the delicate search for truth and love within the way I work is part of that which Sounding Bowls have become, are achieving in the world.

I was invited to the first UK conference for Sound Healers in 2009 at Hawkwood College, where I met Lyz Copper and many others whose work in the field h as been effective, often remarkable. Some of these now use Sounding Bowls. The quality of the sound is as remarkable as any other aspect of them and should be heard and experienced.

Recently I have been asked to give workshops for people to experience Sounding Bowls first hand and to delve deeper into the themes of inner awakening that lie within their pattern and genesis.

One such is to be held at Hawkwood College click here to read more: www.hawkwoodcollege.co.uk
