Shakuhachi Player and
Holistic / Sound Therapist
Stephanie studied music at Dartington College of Arts and graduated in 1988. Here, she was fortunate enough to learn the Shakuhachi, an ancient Japanese bamboo flute used by Zen monks as a meditation tool, which was eventually to become the mainstay of her Sound Therapy work.
After leaving college, she pursued a long-held interest in the world of holistic therapies and undertook many years training in a variety of disciplines, including Massage, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. She also began training in Reiki, becoming a Reiki Master/Teacher in 1999. She ran a successful business from her home in East London, seeing private clients and running courses in Meditation and Reiki.
After moving to the South West in 2001, Stephanie realised the time had come to combine her extensive experience of therapeutic work with her musical background. To that end, she trained with Simon Heather at the College of Sound Healing.
Stephanie uses a range of musical instruments in her Sound Therapy sessions, including Tibetan and Crystal Bowls, Gongs, Tuning Forks, Didgeridoo, Flute, Rattles, Shruti and Voice. Stephanie specialises in using the Shakuhachi, and feels that its beautiful, haunting sound is unmatched by any other instrument for inducing deep relaxation and a feeling of calm and tranquillity.
Stephanie sees Sound Therapy clients for one-to-one sessions from her home near Wells, Somerset and also runs monthly 'Sound Relaxation and Meditation' sessions from centres in both Wells and Glastonbury. She also gives regular performances on the Shakuhachi, at concerts and around the local area at venues including the Chapter House, Wells Cathedral and the Abbots Kitchen, Glastonbury Abbey.
